The Congress government which is known for notoriously going after honest officers( DK ravi, anaupama shenoy, ganapathi cases as examples) has issued a notice to the Deputy Inspector General of Prisons D. Roopa IPS for alleged violation of the services rules. This comes after Roopa exposed corruption and irregularities in the prisons department.
In reply to a question in Mysuru on Friday, Chief Minister Siddarmaiah took exception to officials repeatedly speaking to the media and said that it was in violation of the services rules.“If there is evidence or documents related to violation of rules or corruption, the official is free to bring it to the notice of the superior. But, repeatedly approaching the media is prohibited and we have issued a notice to DIG (Prisons) Roopa for violating the rules,”Mr. Siddaramaiah.
On the report submitted by Ms. Roopa, the Chief Minister said that an inquiry has been ordered and retired IAS officer Vinay Kumar has been appointed to probe into the allegations. “We want the probe to be completed at the earliest and if the contents of Ms. Roopa’s report were found to be true, action will be taken against the guilty,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah.
Ms. Roopa report on rampant corruption in the prison and easy access to drugs besides preferential treatment to AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala in Parapanna Agrahara jail, was allegedly leaked to the media, throwing the top echelons in the police department and the Government into a tizzy. It forced the Chief Minister to get into damage control mode by ordering an inquiry, as the report has also implicated the Director General of Police (Prisons) H.N. Satyanarayana.
